Invest in what works.

The Communities First Catalyst Fund will provide financial resources to innovators at the community level helping to address the health inequities exposed by COVID-19 and strengthen the health system for all. These grants (13,000-16,000 USD) will fuel breakthrough ideas coming out of the collaborative and support community leaders’ ideas and projects in local communities. Further criteria to be eligible for funding include:

  • Demonstrated leadership on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic

  • 501c(3) status, other nonprofit status, or a fiscal sponsor*

    • For nonprofit organizations, we will require a W9 form for domestic grantees and a W8 and wire form for international grantees

  • Must be addressing inequities exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic through innovative ways

The funding can be used for broad support, including but not limited to project expenses, cost of supplies, and general operating support. Grant funding may not be used for lobbying.

Funding will be driven by the community leaders in the Learning Exchange. To nominate an organization (this can be a self-nomination), please complete the form below. The Communities First team will then contact the organization for a formal application. Applications will be accepted in writing, video, or via a recorded phone interview. Please note that all interview types will be weighted equally.

Nominations for the 2022 Communities First Catalyst Fund have closed.

**Fiscal sponsors are tax-exempt, charitable ventures that have the ability to receive charitable contributions for specific projects, the infrastructure to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws and controls to ensure that all funds will be used for the intended purposes. Above all, fiscal sponsors place responsibility for implementing programs in the hands of project leaders while ensuring appropriate fiduciary oversight. Fiscal sponsors are meant for applicants without IRS designated 501c3 status. Connections in your community may help you identify a fiscal sponsor; you may also use this resource to guide you.
